Fish Sale

The 2023 Fall Fish Sale 

 

The 2024 Spring Fish Sale is on!!. If you placed an order, they MUST be picked up at the Ottawa SWCD Office on May 16th from 1-2:30.   You will need to bring your own container, with a plastic liner (trash bag) filled with pond water. A trash container, large storage tote or 5 gallon bucket work great. A 5 gallon bucket is adequate for about 100 fish. Bluegill

These are common throughout Ohio but prefer clear ponds and latkes with rooted vegetation. They normally grow 6-10.”

Hybrid Bluegill

Hybrids are a cross between female green sunfish and male bluegill. They have a larger mouth than a bluegill. The majority of hybrid bluegill is male and reproduction is minimal.

They are one of the most commonly used bait minnows in Ohio. They grow to about 3”.

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth Bass are identified by the large mouth that extends past the back of the eye when the mouth is closed.  They are a popular game fish, and when stocked with an adequate supply of bluegill and sunfish, they can grow up to 1 1/2 pounds.

Red Ear Shellcracker (Sunfish)

Red Ear Shellcracker normally grow to 9-11.” They are commonly stocked in small lakes and ponds throughout the state. They prefer clear warm waters with vegetation.

Perch

Yellow perch like to live in vegetated shallow areas of the pond.  They feed on aquatic invertebrates and can grow up to 6-12".  The stocking rate per acre is 250.

Channel Catfish

Channel catfish are scaleless and have slender bodies. They feed near or on the bottom. Most range in size from 12-14”. They can reach 10lbs or more.  They prefer deep water.

White Amur (Grass Carp)

The grass carp is a large herbivorous freshwater fish.  They survive only on eating plant material. White amur help if you are looking for a way to control vegetation and/or algae in your pond.

 Japanese Koi

Koi are domesticated Amur carp that are selected or culled for color. They only eat plant materials and can help control duckweed.

Nature's Pond Conditioner by Koenders is a two in one bottle product.  First, you have a bacteria that will, over time, turn the black much in your pond into clean water. Secondly, there is a food grade dye in it as well, that will give your pond a natural green color to help block out sunlight and slow the growth of unwated plant life.
